Glazed Orange Poppy Seed Bread

Ingredients

  • 1½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest, about 2 oranges
  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons orange juice

Instructions

  1. Set oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a 9×5 inch bread pan with non-stick spray and line with parchment paper. Spray the parchment paper as well. Set aside.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking powder and salt. Whisk well to combine. In the bowl of a mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, add sugar, vegetable oil, eggs, almond extract and orange zest. Mix on medium speed until well-combined and lightened in color, about 3 minutes. Add buttermilk, flour mixture and poppy seeds. Mix until well-combined.
  3. Pour batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 55-60 minutes, until the top is browned and an inserted toothpick comes out clean.
  4. While bread bakes, make the glaze. In a medium bowl, combine powdered sugar and orange juice. Whisk until smooth and set aside.
  5. Cool bread completely before drizzling glaze on top.
